THE RANGE JOINS THE TRANSROCKIES RACE SERIES
Alberta’s Gravel Gem Goes Global!
Big news from the gravel scene! The TransRockies Race Series and The Gravel Experience are thrilled to announce a game-changing partnership to co-produce Alberta’s premiere gravel cycling event, THE RANGE. Founded in 2020 by Garth Stotts—right in the middle of the pandemic—The Range quickly pedaled its way into the hearts of cyclists across the province. The route became an instant gravel cycling classic renowned as a beautiful adventure over an unrelenting demanding course. Riders take on the elements, varied terrain, steep hills (The Wall….) riding through the grasslands, the historic Burke Creek Ranch, and the stunning Porcupine Hills. The start and finish are conveniently located in the charming Centennial Park and Campground of Claresholm, Alberta.
For those keeping score at home, TransRockies has been synonymous with epic endurance events since 2002, when it launched the legendary TransRockies Challenge. The team rolled into the gravel scene in 2022 with the inaugural Gravel Royale and hasn’t looked back. Now, with The RANGE joining the lineup, TransRockies continues to cement its reputation for crafting world-class experiences on two wheels.
A Big Vision Gets Even Bigger
Garth Stotts has always envisioned The Range as more than just a race—it’s a celebration of Alberta’s unique and natural ecosystems of SW Alberta where sustainable ranching practices and conservation have preserved this often-overlooked natural gem. While the event has already delivered in spades, Garth sees even greater potential. “The Range is ready to take another step from a premier Alberta gravel event to a world-class internationally recognized destination experience. Everything here is perfect for gravel cycling from the route to the community support. The goal was to partner with a group that could support this vision of the event to make it even better for the riders and all community members.” he said. Stotts will stay closely involved in guiding the event’s future, tackling marketing and stakeholder relations. Oh, and here’s a juicy tidbit: he plans to race The Range himself for the very first time in 2025!
TransRockies: Bringing the Gravel Grit
With more than two decades of experience delivering rugged, remote, and unforgettable endurance events, TransRockies brings serious horsepower to the table. From the Rockies of Alberta to the trails of Colorado, their portfolio spans 11 events across 32 days in 2025. The Range joins Gran Fondo Badlands as TransRockies’ second Alberta event, and President Aaron McConnell couldn’t be more pumped: “The Range is an iconic event that aligns perfectly with what we do. We’re thrilled to work with Garth to elevate it to the next level.”
What’s New for The Range in 2025?
Brace yourselves, gravel grinders, because The Range is stepping up in a big way. First, it’s now part of the Gravel Earth Series, an international circuit that adds serious prestige. Riders can rack up points toward the overall ranking—and yes, there’s prize money on the line.
But that’s not all! A brand-new ultra-distance route, The Frontier, has been unveiled. This beast of a course spans 211 kilometers through the Porcupine Hills, with a quad-busting 3,000 meters of climbing. With this addition, The Range isn’t just playing in the big leagues—it’s swinging for the fences alongside the toughest gravel races in the world.
