Preview Stage 5!
Our TransRockies crew had the opportunity to scout out Stage 5 this past weekend and what a trip it turned out to be. The weather was spectacular, the views memorable and it only took 9 hours!
With Stage 5 traversing some pretty intense terrain between Anchor D Ranch and Little
Elbow, this leg of the race promises to be a doozy! Nintey percent trail with a steep ascent at the beginning, riders can expect to push the pedal to the medal. However, beyond the blood and sweat, one can look forward to some of the most scenic mountainous views and natural wildlife unique to the Canadian Rockies. TransRockies at its best!

TR3 Sold Out, 50 NEW spots now available!
June’s first news item is a bit of a good news/bad news scenario, and given that you’re mountain bikers and are interested in the TransRockies, we’re going to assume that you’re tough enough to take the bad news first! If you were thinking of riding the TR3 this year, it recently reached capacity for 2010.
The good news is we’ve released 50 more TR3 spots and have just made them available for riders who’ve been sitting on the fence or just plain procrastinating in signing up for 2010.
We’re two months out from the start of both the 2010 TransRockies and TR3 and though limited spots are available for both, the field is rapidly reaching our rider limit. Sign up soon – full registration details are available at http://www.transrockies.com/trc/packaging-pricing.

New for 2010-Data Drill VSAT Internet Providing riders and crew with web access!
We’re proud to announce a new and exciting sponsorship that allows us to further enhance our rider services for 2010.
For the first time in the history of the TransRockies, riders and crew will have
internet available to them at every stage along the route thanks to Calgary-based Data Drill, a supplier of secure IT and communication services to the Oil and Gas business.
Not only will this allow the TransRockies media and communications team to keep your friends and family up to date with stage by stage results and reports on our website, but it will also allow riders to blog, email and check in with home at every stop along the route no matter how remote. It’s like an Internet café in the middle of the Rockies!
Full stage data and profiles now available on the website!
We’ve just published the final details on all seven stages this year’s TransRockies. So, if you want to know what lies ahead in terms of total distance and elevation for each day you can visit http://transrockies.com/trc/route-and-stages and start visualizing what this week in the Rockies is going to look like.
As promised, we have shortened the race distance somewhat and the total mileage for 2010 is 406km with roughly 13,000 metres of ascent during the journey.
The shortened route is, however, focussed on ride quality and based upon current routing and projected conditions, we’re estimating that riders will be on trails for at least 75% of the ride time and over 50% of the total distance. That’s a lot of real mountain biking, in some of the biggest mountains around!
Preview Stages 1 and 6 online!
We are currently building video previews of all 2010 stages, and the previews for stages 1 and 6 are up!
This a great look behind the scenes look as the TransRockies crew checks each stage with our local course designers to make sure that it’s going to offer the classic TransRockies mix of physical and technical challenge with lots of fun and beautiful scenery.
Elite athletes signing up for 2010!
With a new course and a big pot of UCI point and prize money to offer, some of North America’s top mountain bikers are signing up to be part of the 2010 TransRockies and TR3.
Top riders lining up for the start of TR3 will be Team Giant’s Adam Craig, Cark Decker and Kelli Emmett along with Burke Swindlehurst of Team Give, a 31-year road pro who’s competing in both mountain and road races this year.
Another notable addition to the TR3 is Olympic Medallist and Giro D’Italia stage winner, Axel Merckx, who now lives in BC’s Okanagan where he runs a bicycle tour company.
The 2010 TransRockies Open Mixed division is lined up to have some of the fiercest and fastest competition yet, with several powerful teams already signed up to race.
Last year’s champions Jeff Neilson and Mical Dyck are signed up to defend their championship while the 2008 champs Normon Thibault and Wendy Simms have returned after a maternity break to turn the pedals in anger once more.
These two teams will be joined by the Colorado duo of longtime pro racer Gretchen Reeves and her partner Cannon Shockley. Keep your eyes on our upcoming newsletter for more updates on the elite riders who’re coming to the Rockies this year. To register for the TransRockies or TR3 click here.
PEET Shoes Dryers to Sponsor 2010 TransRockies and TR3
TransRockies is proud to announce PEET Dryer as a sponsor of the 2010 TransRockies and TR3. As the official supplier of shoes, Dryers will help ensure riders start each day with dry footwear!
PEET and the TransRockies will set up a shoe drying station at each finish line where riders can drop off their shoes to get them dry and ready for the next day’s ride.
“With river crossings and unpredictable mountain weather, wet shoes are a regular part of the TransRockies,” said event director Aaron McConnell. “PEET has been a long-time sponsor of the TranRockies Run and we’re very excited to extend this sponsorship so that we can offer the same great service to our riders.”
Along with capacity to dry 20 pairs of shoes at once using Peet Advantage multi-pair shoe dryers, the TransRockies will also have 10 Peet Hydration Dryers to get hydration packs ready for the next day’s racing. Peet will also be providing prizing for podium teams and riders on one stage of the race. Winners will receive Peet dryers as part of their prize!
About PEET Dryer:
PEET Dryer was founded in 1968 in St. Maries, Idaho, where inventor and sportsman Gene Peet developed the very first footwear dryer. He did it because he simply got fed up with waking up to soggy boots — and the discomfort that put his feet through. After making a bunch of his dryers to satisfy pleading friends and relatives, Gene decided that his invention was worth starting a business, to share his enjoyment of “PEET® Dry” comfort with everyone.
