GORE-TEX® TransRockies™ Run 2010
CHECKLIST

Welcome to the fourth edition of the GORE-TEX® TransRockies™ Run! We know that this event will be an unforgettable experience and an amazing adventure for you. We work hard to put on a high-calibre event with all of the major support required to make it a great experience. However, there are still some details that you will need to look after.

Here is a short checklist of the main points that you will need to cover in preparation for the event.

1. One Emergency Kit per team

For safety purposes, this should contain the following items:

  1. * Rainwear (rain jacket) for both participants
  2. Warm clothing (fleece sweater or similar) for both participants because
weather in the Rockies can change by the minute
  3. * Warm hat and gloves
  4. 1 small first aid kit for every team incl. tape for blisters
  5. * 1 survival blanket for every team
  6. ID card, money
  7. Sun-block
  8. Route book (supplied by us)
  9. Electrolyte capsules (We recommend Saltstick brand)

* These items are MANDATORY for start, and will be checked at the start each day. Teams without these items will not be permitted to start.

2. A bag with your personal belongings for the evening and the night.
When signing-on in Buena Vista, each participant (two per team) will receive a special duffel bag printed with their start number. This bag should be used for the personal belongings participants might need each evening and throughout the week, such as clothing, recovery food, extra shoes, etc.

This bag also has to be used to store a sleeping bag and pad. Both team participants should drop off all bags at the Luggage truck on time and together on the morning of every stage (location and time will be announced). The bags will be transported to the next stage location where participants can pick them up on arrival at the daily stage camp. Please understand that we can only transport one bag for each participant and cannot accept any additional items. We will also transport your excess luggage from Buena Vista to Beaver Creek, however, you will not have access to these bags until the final day.

3. Accommodations
All teams will sleep in tents. Tent accommodations is one team per tent (sharing with your teammate) unless you purchase an additional tent package. Additional tent packages can be added by logging into your registration account and adding it under the merchandise section. Tents are approximately 7’ x 7’ of floor space. PLEASE NOTE: The temperature dropped to 32 Fahrenheit/ 0 Celsius at Leadville and Camp Hale last year. Please bring a warm sleeping bag.

No accommodations are provided for the nights prior to the start, or following the finish of the race (the evening after the last stage). Participants are encouraged to book hotel accommodation for those evenings. Visit the Race Info section of the website for accommodation information.

We are generally able to accommodate all participants with access to showers. However, there will be limited use. Showers must be limited to 5 minutes to conserve hot water, fresh water, and allow enough space for grey-water storage.

4. Participant Support
Participants may bring friends, family or other support during the race. If the participants wish to purchase a meal package for friends, family or support they can purchase the package prior to the race by logging into their registration account, at Sign-On at the start or at the Race Office during the daily stages. Support vehicles will be charged a daily or weekly rate for a confirmed site. Support crew/vehicles will not be allowed to park or enter the TransRockies staging area unless they purchase a vehicle camping pass. Participant support crews will be responsible for their own accommodation and transportation to each stage location, however, a set of full driving instructions are included with the purchase of a vehicle camping pass.

5. Running Computer
The GORE-TEX® TransRockies™ Run route will be marked as well as possible with arrows and tape. However, there is always a risk of markings being removed or changed. Therefore we will equip you with a detailed route book and maps. The trail book gives you precise mileage and altitude data for every route change. For this reason, we strongly recommend that every participant should have a running computer and every team an altimeter.

6. Equipment Check
We will check your emergency kit (see point #1) every morning randomly. This will happen for your own safety.

7. Catering on the Course

  1. Check Points
The check points offer electrolyte drinks, water, energy bars and fruit in sufficient supply. Please take what you need and leave food/drink for your co-competitors who will come through the check point after you.
  2. Finish Line Catering
In every finish area there is a supply of food and drink similar to the check point.
  3. Evening Meal
Every night there is a catered dinner. Please don´t forget your accreditation, as you will need this to receive your meal.
  4. Breakfast
Every participant will get breakfast every day in or near the camp. Please don´t forget your accreditation, as you will need this to receive your meal.

8. Massage service
The TransRockies™ Run expo area offers athletic therapy and massage service on site to soothe aching muscles. Massage and other therapy services are offered on a “pay-as-you-go” basis. The charge for massage is $1.00/minute. Cash only!

9. Photo service
Participants MUST bring a passport-size photo to Sign-On in Buena Vista for your accreditation.

We will also have a professional photographer capture the daily racing during the entire GORE-TEX® TransRockies™ Run week. As much as possible, pictures of all participants will be taken throughout the course, which can be viewed and ordered after the event.

10. Media
When you register, please be sure to upload a bio or information sheet about yourself, your running experience/s, and other interesting information that you might want the world to know! We will be sure to spread the word! You can log in to your registration profile at any time leading up to the race and upload this information.

11. Conditions and Rules
More important information – critical for review before the event – can be found in our Conditions of Participation and Official Rules and Regulations document.
