I'm looking for a partner. Preferably from the Chicagoland area to faciliate training and team building.
This is sort of like a singles ad so I'll exploit the medium- I'm 36, male, married and mad about cycling- mtb, road, time trial and cross. I race Cat 4 in Road and Cross and Sport on the MTB. Seeking similar to ride and compete in the TransRockies.
I've exhausted all my friends. No one wants to give it a try- to long, to hard, to expensive, blah, blah, blah. _________________ I'm just an old cowboy with twigs in my hair

| If no one bites on the offer in your area, I'm looking for a partner as well. I'm the one looking for a partner in California. I do have a few questions though to see if we are near the same level. you said you race sport class, have you ever raced, trained in, or riden anything this difficult before? Have you been mountian biking in altitude before? I'm originally from the Chicago area and this race involves 2-3 hour climbs, so I was wondering, how do you get climbing training in? They also have some road and alot of fire road so, what is your avg pace on a road bike on the flats? |

Eric,
Sorry I didn't see your post although I would be concerned about teaming with someone I've not met or ridden with (California makes it tough). There might be ways around that.
I won't be doing the TR in 2007 but am still interested in the race and will be looking for someone to race with in 2008.
I've not done a race like this before. Yes, Chicago is geographically challenged. I manage to find a few hills on the road bike by riding up and down the hills around the Fox River and by the lake. There are a few short hills in Kettle Moraine. I spend a couple weeks every year in Blacksburg, VA which has a lot more to offer in terms of climbing and will be going to Tucson for a week long training camp in February. I would continue to do this in prep for a TR in 2008.
I do more road riding that MTB. I can do a 40 KM TT in an hour. I do regular fast paced club rides and a bit of road and crit racing as well.
This year I'll be entering as many of the www.WORS.org MTB marathon races as time will allow.
When you live in the flat lands you make do with what you can.
As far as altitude I've not cycled over 4,000 feet but have done quite a bit of mountaineering with climbs on Mt. Rainier, Mt. Hood. Mt. Adams and Pico de Orizaba.
In fact, the only reason I wouldn't be doing the TR in 2008 if I can find a partner is because I could get an expedition together for a climbing trip to Bolivia. _________________ I'm just an old cowboy with twigs in my hair

I was wondering if you found a partner yet. I have a slot that I will cancell - just want to do this race again. You mention concerns about not riding together. I completed TRC in 04 in 19th place open with a guy from CA, then was 5th in the Master with a guy in WI in 05. I was 5th with my wife in the 80+ mixed in 06. I also completed La Ruta 6 finishing on average around 80-100th or so.
Let me know if you are interested. (oh, I will be 46)
